Geats and their possibilities

The geats were never a real part of creatures mythos. The mythos design document never mentions them nor have I ever seen an official mention of them. Geats, apparently pronounced jeets, is another word for goths as in the inhabitants of gothland, or geatland as it is called in the beowulf epic. I suppose I interpret the name as meaning “all but the main characters”

Their use in game is generally for having another sprite slot, but it is possible to make an ingame creature with it, though actual use requires some 3rd party fixes. It isn't done often but it does have its uses. Geats are of use when a creature has different sounds, different atts or very different behaviors. Connections between species and behavior in creatures’ minds are simple, so for example the interactions a norn has with one grendel are the basis for all future interactions with unknown grendels.

Geats have been used as shee, as robots, as dragons and completely alien creatures. Arnouts blob aliens are an example, and they pose a bigger threat than common grendels do. If used exclusively for one type of geat this works perfectly fine but when a player would also have gaiuses running around his ship things would get confusing quickly.

A fourth column of creatures is an often heard suggestion, from the infamous naven to bird creatures and aliens to robots. I too used to think, fantasize and hypothesize about those with my friends. Something I suspect most players have done at one point, I’d also love to see drawings or writings about this!

The use of geats as something slightly more than a creature is also an interesting one. Gaia for example is more than alone a creature, she also recycles gadgets and produces bioenergy. Long ago on a creatures forum I’ve read the idea of making the ettin and grendel mothers a living and breathing but stationary creature. I imagine those large beasts to be served by their respective creatures like ants do to their queen, and their hunger, type of meal and so on would influence the eggs they would lay.

Of course, this would require pretty complex interactions. Still, to use geats as living tools and as the focus of a sort of servitude might be interesting. I would really like to hear other peoples opinion on this, and ideas of different “tool”-like creatures are very interesting to me, as are ideas of any fourth type of creatures to me! Thank you for reading, again I love to hear from readers, and have a good day!
